Ride Information

Base Camp: Talladega National Forest Warden Station Horse Camp: Just off Rt 532, Fruithurst, AL 36262. Primitive camping only. Plenty of trees for high ties. Water spigots at a few locations in camp. Park tightly to ensure space for all.

Warden Station Horse Camp contains several camping loops. The first loop on the right is reserved for day riders who will share the trails with us, so please do not camp there. The first loop on the left is the vet check & registration area, and is reserved for volunteers. There is a loop to the right, & two more loops further down on the left. Please wait for parking assistance. Showers are available 1 mi down the road for a small fee.  Dogs must be on leash at all times. Generators off at 10 P.M.

Camping Fee: $6 camping fee per night. $3 if you just ride for the day. Fill out envelopes & drop in pipe at the base camp. 

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PAY YOUR OWN CAMPING FEE!!

Trails: There are 5 loops of technical trail, with rolling hills, lots of elevation changes, some steeper inclines. There are single track forest trails, and old roadbeds. There is natural water, water crossings, and there will be water placed on trail at strategic points. It is a mountainous area with some rock, so hoof protection is highly recommended. We have Ham Radio operators placed at various checkpoints on trails for your safety. Helmets are Required!! No cantering in camp allowed!

Awards: All events will receive Awards up to 10th position. Best Condition & High Vet Scores will also be awarded. Juniors will receive Junior Awards in their respective events. Completion Awards also will be awarded. There will be several other Awards also.



Directions

From I 20 in Alabama: take the exit 199 for SR- 9 North toward Heflin. Turn right onto State Route 4, Then turn left on Hwy 78. From Hwy 78 you will turn North onto County Road 61. Look for the AERC ride sign that is across the road from the Cane Creek Fire Station. TURN LEFT HERE. Travel +/- 7-8 miles north on County Road 61. Make a right onto County Road 532 (There is a sign for Coleman Lake/Warden Station Horse Camp). All roads are paved & easy to travel. Horse camp entrance will be 100 yards on your right. 

From I 20 in Georgia: from I 20 in GA, take the exit 5 onto SR- 100 towards Tallapoosa. Turn Right. Travel +/- 5mi turn left onto US 78. Travel +/- 9mi to Fruithurst, continue another 4mi until you see Cane Creek Fire Station on your left. Turn right on County Road 61. Travel +/- 8.5mi to County Road 532 (There is a sign for Coleman Lake/Warden Station Horse Camp). All roads are paved & easy to travel. Horse camp is 100 yards on your right.
